Find Your Correct Bra Size
Finding the correct bra size is more important than many women imagine.
Although comfort is a big issue, a poorly fitting bra can cause plenty of problems in addition to discomfort.
Unfortunately, most women don't really know how to determine what bra they should be wearing.
The Problems of Not Using The Correct Bras Size
The main problem women face from wearing not the correct bra size is the lack of support. We wear bras in order accentuate our bodies but also to prevent the physical problems that can result from sagging, especially for women with larger breasts. That sagging can end up causing serious back pain even at a young age. Plus, it can damage our posture and our confidence. When we don't have a good, supportive bra, we simply don't look as good in the mirror and that's going to impact the way we carry ourselves.
Poor bra support can also lead to neck and shoulder problems, too. Some people have had such severe problems that they have required physical therapy.
If you prefer underwire bras, you might want to know that wearing not the correct bra size can cause pain and pressure on your breast tissue because the wire can end up sitting on the tissue instead of supporting the breast.
Signs You Need To Check Your Bra Size
There are number of signs that could suggest that you might want to re-check your current bra size. For one, think of how long it's been since you've checked your correct bra size. In most cases, it's probably been a long time. However, as we get older our breasts our going to change in size. If you've lost or gained weight, gone through a pregnancy, or even changed bra styles, you should have a re-check done to make sure you're choosing the appropriate bra size for you.
If you are having problems with your current bras, that's another good sign that it's time to re-size your bra. For example, if your breasts are bulging from the tops of the cups or if the bottom edges bulge out from the sides, these can be signs that you need a larger cup size at least in that particular style. If the straps are digging into your shoulders or back or if they are slipping off your shoulders even at the smallest settings, you may also need to be refitted.
Any time your current bra stops fitting as well as it once did you should consider this a signal that it's time to re-check your correct bra size. After all, it doesn't take long to do and the benefits are well worth the effort, including looking 5 to 10 pounds thinner, having better posture, eliminating pain and discomfort, and feeling more confident about your appearance.
Make Sure You are Wearing the Right Size
Checking to make sure your bra is the right size only takes three quick steps. You can use these steps to make sure the bras in your current wardrobe are keepers but also to help you purchase new bras that are going to work for you in the future.
First, you need to make sure the bra straps are fitting properly. Check the strap in the back using a mirror or a trusted friend. It should be perfectly horizontal. You may need a slightly bigger size if it does not. However, you do want the strap to be firm against your body but loose enough that you can run two fingers beneath it easily. Remember just two fingers. If you can fit more fingers, then the bra is too loose. If you can't fit two, the bra is too tight.
Second, if you're going to be wearing a bra that contains supportive wires check to make sure those wires are in the proper place. They should be flat between your breasts and should not be sitting on your breast tissue at all. You may need a larger size if the wires are being pushed away from your body or if they are putting pressure on your actual breasts.
Finally, make sure your breasts are enclosed completely in the cups. There should be no bulging above or on the sides in any type of bra you wear. If there is, then you're going to need a bigger cup size. On the other hand, if the cup fabric can be wrinkled and seems a bit loose, you could probably use a smaller cup size, at least in that particular style.
Remember to follow these sizing instructions to find the correct bra size any time you buy a new bra or try a new bra style.
